To begin the process of signing up for lessons, fill out the form on the contact page. I will reach out to you with information about my written policy and current rates and schedule a time for a brief interview. The purpose of the interview is multiple. First, for you to get to know me and how I operate; Second, for me to meet the student (and parent if student is a minor) and make sure we are a good fit; and Third, to discuss the purpose of lessons and to get an idea of where to start in the education process.
Lessons will be either 45 minutes or an hour. Length will be based on age, level, and preference. My general recommendation for starting age is 6 or 7 years old or once they are able to read. Other than that, you are never too late! I have experience teaching both kids and adults and welcome students of all ages and histories.
Each term will include at least one group lesson hosted by myself and may include guest educators or adjudicators. There will also be performance opportunities throughout the year, including a “year end” recital in the spring.
Students should have daily access to a piano in a quiet space to practice, preferably within the home since this is also where lessons will take place. Students should also be ready to commit to a daily practice session, which is essential for improvement. Each lesson will end with weekly assignments including book work and method work. Students are expected to complete assignments before the following week’s lesson.
